It's a passion, an obsession, a ingrained need.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't jot something down..( God and Goddess how I love the computer!) Even when I'm taking a break from penning something new, or editing, (and I'm always editing... you should see how many files I have waiting to be edited to where I can publish...) I always seem to have this driving force spurring me on.
I'm lucky enough to have a good amount of time in which to do this... of course there are other things that I let slide.
The dishes get stacked in the dishwasher and get done at the end of the day...(with just the two of us here now, there's plenty of room in the washer.) The dust collects, and things don't get put away quite as quick, and there's sewing to be finished.
I write. It's what I do. It's what I am.
I've been doing stories since I was little, and now they are making sense. Or at least I hope they do.
I just spent a month doing the NaNoWriMo challenge. It's a month long discipline of getting words down and getting a novel done, start to finish. 50k worth of words.
When I was doing Fan Fiction, (Yes I know, no one wants to admit they actually did Fan Fiction... but I do! Proudly.) it wasn't unusual for me to get out 4000 words a day... I had a lot to say.
And my Fan Fiction was easy to do, the formal was there, all you had to do was stick to the basic cannon, and extend it just a tad. Flesh up the players so they were more 3 dimensional.
And when you write on a subject you love, it's a wonderful thing. While I may never go back to Fan Fiction full time, I do visit from time to time.
A read of my Fic, who is also a friend, requested I do a little Winter piece... and she said she'd understand if I had too much on my plate. Well I do have a lot on the old Paisley plate... (I think of myself as Paisley, not as Patt) I take care of my disabled hubby, I run our house, and I self publish, that means I'm the whole shebang.. I do the advertising, and I do the personal plugs. But the request was made, and I asked the muse to show me a story... and wham... A Goblin Yule Story was born. A small gift to my Fan Fic public.
Why you ask would I do that? Because, I write.
