Writers work very hard, doing research, creating charters, and creating worlds. Some are lucky and find their niche quickly. Others of us have a long and endless struggle. For me Fantasy was a very comfortable niche, especially the world of fandom and Fan Fiction. It gave me a safe harbor to work from and an accepted world to play in. And it was wonderful... for a while. Then I found myself needing to stretch it a bit. To go beyond the limits of the world that had been created, and to begin to create my own world.
My friend Syd talked me into giving Nano a try. Nano was where I began the process of creating my own original storyline. It was also where I ventured out of the Mysts and into the world around me... It gave me the opportunity to try my hand at telling a ghost story. And it freed me to be more... me.
I'm still very comfortable in the fantasy world, working with goblins and gnomes and Gargoyles. That will always be my home base, but it's not the only world I will explore as I find my niche. There are so many stories to tell, so many places to see. I hope I have a chance to tell a good portion of them.
